Series 3: Supervisor/Senior Leader Starter Pack
You’ve earned a promotion and now you’re in charge. As a leader in a SETT company you’re committed to helping the people that work for you and around you be the best that they can be. You might find yourself wondering: how can I get this right? That’s a good question! You know what they say: with power comes responsibility.
If you’re paying close attention, you might notice you find it easier to manage people that are more familiar, more like you. You might instinctively know how to understand and relate to those of your own gender, race, or language grouping. This does NOT make you a bad person! This is totally natural and part of how we are wired as human beings. To be at the top of your leadership game, though, and to get the results that you want, you will need to add a few more tools to your toolbox.
When you gain the skills to relate across our human differences, and start to understand the perspective and experiences of women, and other historically-excluded groups (like black, Indigeneous, LGBTQ+, newcomers to Canada, disabled, and neurodiverse), you become better equipped to be a GREAT supervisor, team lead, boss, or senior leader — to everyone!
We know you’re super busy so we have picked the most impactful sessions we have for allies, and SETT leaders, designed to open your eyes to the experiences that women face in SETT environments. We designed them based on the latest scientific research, in a pandemic/post-pandemic context, and included proven strategies to avoid the traps that are causing more and more SETT companies to lose some of their best talent due to problems with respect and inclusivity in the workplace.
Over 5 weeks, starting on November 3rd, you’ll gain awareness of the hidden factors that could hold you back, and learn hands-on strategies to navigate them and keep moving forward to success on YOUR terms. Finally, you’ll learn from a cohort of peers who are also committed to changing their workplaces into more respectful and inclusive places. You’ll get the chance to trade ideas, challenges, and success stories. With a little effort and careful attention, you can make a huge difference in the way that your reports and colleagues experience your workplace. Thank you for being an important part of the change!
Highly recommended for Science Engineering Trades and Technology leaders, supervisors, managers, Human Resources staff working in SETT industries. We highlight the unique challenges that women and other historically-excluded groups face in SETT workplaces, and recommend strategies that will change that landscape and allow everyone to contribute their greatest potential. SETT decision-makers will benefit from this knowledge and their allies and SETT women are also very welcome to join us!
All sessions are 90 minutes in length, run on Zoom, and are presented live by a knowledgeable and skilled facilitator who specializes in helping early to mid-career SETT women claim their power, and go get what they want out of their SETT career! Bring your questions and prepare to connect with some great fellow learners from other industries and companies all across Canada.
All sessions are 1 – 2.30 pm ET, 2:30-4:00 pm NLT, 12:00-1:30 pm CT, 11:00-12:30 pm MT, or 10:00-11:30 am PT. The Supervisor and Team Leader Starter Pack is 5 online sessions, each 90 minutes long, running on Wednesdays.
